Miss J too recently dined at Il Latini in Florence and had the embarassing task of surreptitiously unbuttoning her jeans at the dinner table, so as to make room for the vast quantities of bistecca a fiorentina, antipasto and other delicious sundries then occupying her midsection. She is currently on a diet of lettuce and water to compensate for such indulgences . . . but oh, how divine!

Excuse me, is Mr. Henry seriously saying that he is in Firenze during wild boar season and late truffle season and he has not eaten truffles? I noted wild boar in passing, but have you not had wild boar and truffle on pappardelle, with a fiery Chianti or Montepulciano to match? The hell with the waistline. Just walk everywhere and go eat properly. Gelato is nice, but they actually do that passably in the States, to say nothing of elsewhere in Italy. Wild boar and truffles and pappardelle are not worth having outside Tuscany in the springtime. I am deeply shocked.

Ah, story of my life! I did manage to go to the famers' market this weekend and pass by my favorite bread man. It wasn't easy, though! But, I did get some wonderful tomatos.

Ahh the farmers market. Yikes. I went today and spent $20. I got some tulips. BUT! I also picked up some locally made Havarti, some Kettle Corn made on site, and some locally made almond brittle. MMM...But the fun didn't stop there. After I left the market, I went to my favorite chocolate shop, where I've been spending money as if I have it for almost 4 years (the owners and I go way back at this point). The chocolate is imported from Lebanon...and is without a doubt the best chocolate I've ever had.

The point of my story? I also feel like my midsection is about to suffer.

Without turning to spiritual guidance, 12-step programs, or other superstitious behaviors such as ph-balancing or an all-meat diet, is there no way he can regain the true path?

Yes! For it is spring, and soon your local farmer's market will be bursting with a riot of fresh, joyous produce. The last days of winter are tough on all of us, but spring is just around the corner.
