What about the Diet Coke? I crave it as surely, but more shamefacedly, as Mr. Henry craves his coffee. Without it, I get the blinding headache, and I long for the sweet scorch of chemicals as they burn down my throat. (I can't abide the other stuff - one glucose tolerance test, and it may take years to be able to be in the same room with regular Coke)

Does the no soda rule include Badoit, Perrier etc? Is it the bubbles that are the issue?

Very good advice. I think soda is one root cause of obesity. And, a long time ago, a friend of mine came up with the very short version of these guidelines: no dessert after 6PM, no food after 9PM. I pretty much adhere to that. However, I do drink alcohol after dinner; probably the same thing as eating desert after 6PM. Not that I'll change...

Excellent advice, Mr. Henry. I'm glad to say I adhere to most of these rules (I'll have to try the delayed dessert rule. Problem is that if I save dessert for breakfast, it is liable to vanish during the night, down the gullet of my significant other.) I also never snack after dinner. If I feel hunger pangs come on, I drink some water to fool my stomach until I'm safely asleep. This trick requires a bladders with the endurance to make it 'til morning...

Ah, fear not, cheese will not hurt the dog. In fact, if someday your Pepper is experiencing gastric distress of the intestinal variety, a great method for helping is to first give her Pedialyte (to combat the dehydration that so often accompanies dysentery like stuff) and later to give a meal which consists mainly of rice, chicken broth, and indeed: cheese.

Hmm - we do all of these things. I feel pretty good right now. I agree re: soda and feel it's the Pure Evil of the food world. It's a bad as smoking.
